Pollution is a major problem in most Indian cities and it does not only impact the environment, but it takes a toll on human health and destroys the skin.

In today's world, one must be concerned about the impact of pollution on our health and on the skin. Luckily, with a little advice and help, we humans can do a lot to protect the skin from air pollution.  Sargam Dhawan, Director, Planet Herbs Lifesciences Pvt Ltd offers some tips on how you can take care of your skin while travelling or moving about in a polluted city.

AVOID EXERCISING OUTDOORS

When air quality is bad, one should avoid exercising outdoors. You might want to do this even if you live near or in a near high-traffic area. Pollution darkens the skin, to avoid this, you might want to go for a run or do yoga in  the early hours of the morn, before peak traffic time. Another option is to choose an indoor location or a park that has low pollution level. People suffering from asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema are certain types of people who should stay away from highly polluted areas.

AIR PURIFIERS

The toxins in the air are harmful, so it is best to invest in an air purifier. It is crucial to keep in the rooms of children and the elderly to keep their health better.

WASHING OFF POLLUTION FROM SKIN

Wash off the toxins, dust and impurity to keep that healthy glow. Wash your face thoroughly with a face wash to remove all the dirt, excess oil, makeup or any chemicals that one comes in contact with through the day. Cleansing your face thoroughly removes the surface residue and is a great idea to give your face a quick wash this way one can be sure that their face is clean.

WASH OUT THE TOXINS

Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water everyday, this keeps you hydrated inside out. Drinking more water helps you sweat and flush out all the toxins from the body. Though pollution instills the harmful toxins inside our body, water acts as a cleansing agent to remove them from our system.

COVERING YOUR SKIN WELL

Exposing too much of your skin to the harmful UV rays and pollution can spoil your skin as there are harmful particles in the air which go deep inside and ruin the skin. The harmful UV rays not only cause suntan but can damage the skin completely. Wearing a sunscreen with a good SPF when you are outdoors helps protect the skin from UV rays, you might also want to wear long-sleeve shirts or tops to protect your hands form getting burnt.

GET A GOOD SLEEP

Getting good sleep is one of the most important part of taking care of your health. One must take care of their sleeping hours in order to feel fresh internally as well as to get that natural glow on the face.
